Thebes is a city in Boeotia, central Greece. It played an important role in Greek myths, as the site of the stories of Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus and others. Archaeological excavations in and around Thebes have revealed a Mycenaean settlement and clay tablets written in the Linear B script, indicating the importance of the site in the Bronze Age.
Thebes is a relatively important road junction. Within 4 kilometers of the city, there is the ATHE Motorway that connects the city with Athens and Thessaloniki. This road, at Thebes, will lead to the West Attica motorway in the future, offering the possibility of direct access to Eleusis and Western Attica. In addition, two highways pass through Thebes. EO3 connects it with Eleusis, Lamia, Larissa, Kozani and Florina, while the E44 connects it with Chalkis and southern Evia.
